Cross Laminated Timber, better known by the short form CLT, has been gaining increasing popularity particularly in Europe and North America for the last two decades. In recent years it has been manufactured and used as a building material in other parts of the world including New Zealand. A brief overview of the initial research and introduction of CLT in New Zealand is presented here. The prospects of further production and applications are discussed along with the associated challenges.
