World Conference on Timber Engineering in Auckland
The World Conference on Timber Engineering 2012 (WCTE2012) is to be hosted by New Zealand and Australia in Auckland in 2012, led by NZ Timber Design Society
The WCTE is going to return to NZ - the country of origin! WCTE grew from the first Pacific PTEC conference held in Auckland in 1984 . This was followed by Queensland and Rotorua before it became the World Conference. With new developments in timber engineering 2012 is excellent timing for the WCTE to be held in New Zealand for it’s first time in the southern hemisphere.
The world conference is the premiere timber event and is expected to attract 500-700 timber professionals in engineering, architecture, construction, manufacturing and research from around the world. The largest numbers of visitors are expected from Europe, Japan and North America.
A Great Location New Zealand and Australia are excellent tourist destinations and pre-conference tours will be scheduled for east coast of Australia the north of New Zealand and post conference tours to the south.
The Conference Bid The NZ Timber Design Society led the bid for the World Conference in Japan in June and were successful in obtaining the conference against bids from Canada and Brazil. The combination of New Zealand and Australia, government, industry, professionals and researchers was significant in achieving success.
Support for the bid was provided by The Wood Processors Association of New Zealand, NZ Wood, Forest and Wood Products Australia, Structural Timber Innovation Company, Building Research Association of New Zealand, Trade and Enterprise New Zealand and The University of Auckland.
