Experimental analysis of brittle failure in Timber-to-steel connections with small diameter fasteners loaded parallel-to-grain

Timber joints with steel fasteners are among the most used in timber construction. When the load carrying capacity of the connection is reached, either a ductile (yielding of the fastener and embedment in the timber) or a brittle (crack of the wood) failure mode may occur.
