About the event

Light timber-framed (LTF) plywood shear walls are widely used as bracing systems for simple buildings meeting specific criteria under NZS3604. Through specific engineering design, however, their use can be extended to more complex buildings up to six storeys and designed to achieve moderate levels of ductility.

This webinar will demonstrate the capacity design of a limited ductile LTF plywood shear wall closely following the Multi-storey Light Timber-Framed Buildings in New Zealand – Engineering Design Guide by BRANZ (2019). The concepts in the design guide will be briefly introduced and demonstrated through a worked example stepping through the ULS design of a single-storey wall.

Speaker Bio:  Jay is a senior structural engineer at Silvester Clark with experience in designing multi-storey buildings in engineered timber in Wellington, utilizing systems including light-timber framed plywood shear walls with continuous tie-down rod systems and cross-laminated timber shear walls and diaphragms. Jay has a keen interest in engineered timber structures, particularly due to their lower environmental impact, biophilic appeal and versatility even in moderately seismic areas.
