Our
Scholarship Opportunities

Student research scholarship
The New Zealand Timber Design Society (TDS) and the Wood Industry Development and Education (WIDE) Trust are happy to offer up to three research scholarships for students actively involved with timber engineering and research. Successful recipient(s) will receive financial assistance ($3,000) to undertake research in any field related to timber design in any New Zealand tertiary institution.

Professional Development Grants
With global warming and climate change policies, the need for well-designed timber structures, especially those made with mass timber elements, has been rising. Given the fundamental differences between timber and other materials and the fact that many aspects of timber design are not covered by standards and guidelines, there is room to improve the professional skills of practising engineers when it comes to
timber design. The New Zealand Timber Design Society (TDS) and the Wood Industry Development and Education (WIDE) Trust are happy to offer
professional development grants for practising engineers actively involved
with timber design. Successful recipient(s) will receive financial assistance covering enrolment fees for timber design courses.

Conference Scholarships
The TDS Conference Scholarship is an initiative presented by the Timber Design Society (TDS) and is open to early career professionals. Successful recipient(s) will receive financial assistance to go towards attendance at the WoodWorks 2025 Conference in Rotorua.
