Presenter informotion Bjørn is a structural engineer with a background in carpentry and studied structural timber engineering and building physics. He has specialised in mass timber designs since 2010, and since coming to New Zealand in 2013, he has worked on strengthening heritage buildings and introducing various mass timber designs to the country.
Currently on secondment from Engco, where he is Technical Director for Timber, he’s indefinitely joined Timber Unlimited as Technical Manager. He will be responsible for championing and demonstrating the viability of timber in construction.
Bjørn's current focus is leading the development of a practical moisture management guide tailored specifically for mass timber projects, addressing challenges from supply to service. Additionally, he has recently collaborated with the design community to provide feedback on the new NZS AS 1720.1:2022 standard, presenting recommendations for improvements to regulatory bodies and is establishing an expert group to provide valuable suggestions to the regulator to improve the standard. His dedication to refining industry standards and advancing sustainable timber construction practices underscores his commitment to excellence in the field.
