Appropriate Use of Structural Timber

Many criteria are assessed by a Structural Engineer, when choosing the appropriate material to perform a particular task. Ideally these criteria should be centred around economics, aesthetics, performance, ease of construction, client preference.  Sometimes the designers expertise and familiarity with certain materials play a significant roll in the choice of material.
