This paper reports on a development project where a prototype building component in massive wood [1] is beingredesigned for full scale production. By utilizing reclaimed wood, the environmental efficiency of local material loops isimproved. The component facilitates flexibility in construction and user phase, and also future reuse. Furthermore, theblock intervenes with work adaptation in the production line as well as with lifestyle and identity for the users. Throughsimplicity of construction, the block supports self-building and thus economically feasible dwellings. This paperdescribes the criteria for the development process and discusses their influence on the construction method.
