Multiple shear plane timber connections

Timber Connection, Multiple shear planes, Slotted-in steel plates, Brittle failure, Duc-tile failure, Parallel-to-grain, Dowel-type fastener[ABrittle failure mode in multiple shear connectionswith slotted-in steel plates and dowel-type fastenershas been studied for the first time by conducting aset of tests. A stiffness model which adjusts the loaddistribution among the timber elements is proposedto be combined with the existing models for cases ofone or two shear planes. The comparison betweenthe models and the test results demonstrates thatthe model from Quenneville and Zarnani (2017),combined with the stiffness approach is the mostaccurate. However, some inconsistencies betweenthis model and the tests have been noticed. Furtherresearches considering those inconsistencies may leadto a new model that may be applied for connectionswith any number of shear planes.
