This paper presents seismic performance evaluation and design of timber-steel hybrid shear walls consistingof steel moment frames infilled with plywood shear walls. This hybrid system can be easily incorporated intomulti-storey light timber framed (LTF) buildings using construction materials that are readily available in theNZ construction market. A finite element (FE) model of the hybrid wall system was developed with its criticalinput parameters calibrated by connection test database of nailed plywood-timber connections as well as boltedand screwed timber-steel interface connections. The FE model was validated against existing hybrid wall testingdata and then used to conduct a parametric study to establish shear wall response database of the hybrid wallswith various configurations in terms of steel member sizes, nail sizes, and plywood thicknesses.KEYWORDStimber-steel hybrid structures; seismic design; plywood shear walls; finite element modelling
