Welcome to the New Zealand Timber Design Journal

The New Zealand Timber Design Journal is the official publication of the New Zealand Timber Design Society (TDS) and a leading source of knowledge and innovation in timber engineering across New Zealand. Its origins trace back to the New Zealand Journal of Timber Construction, published from 1984 to 1991 by the New Zealand Timber Industry Federation in collaboration with NZTDS. In 1992, it evolved into the Timber Design Journal, reflecting the Society’s growing leadership in advancing timber design.

Published quarterly, the journal showcases peer-reviewed technical articles, case studies, and research from engineers, architects, and academics. It highlights the latest developments in structural timber, from design innovations to sustainability practices, and serves as a bridge between academic research and practical application.

As part of TDS’s mission to foster the advancement and dissemination of timber design knowledge, the journal remains a vital resource for professionals, educators, and students. Members receive printed copies of each issue by mail, and all articles are made available online with a six-month embargo period, after which they are accessible to the wider public.
